Hi Everyone,
Just a brief note to bring you all up to speed on the event we are
planning for Oct. As you know after the St. Patrick's Parade the club
decided that we would only attempt two major events per year, one in the
spring and one in the fall. The tremendous success of the St. Patrick's
Day
Parade convinced us that this should be our ongoing big spring event. [And
once again I would like to thank all of the folks who worked so hard to
make the parade a success] As for the fall event it was agreed that since
Halloween is celebrated in Celtic cultures as the Celtic New Year, it
would only make sense for us to plan our big fall event
somewhere close to that date. Here's what the committee has come up with:
The Event is tentatively called Boo's Blues & BBQ and would take
place on the Esplanade on Sat. Oct 27. It would consist of several local
restaurants conducting a sort of Taste of The Town event and amateur
contestants grilling their best dish to be judged. The club would sell
beer, provide judges for the cooking contests and provide the live music.
In conjunction with this event the Main Street committee is discussing
holding a costume contest, a hayride down Chillicothe St. and a corn hole
tournament. Jennifer Hanlon has worked with the city government to get
permission for us to block off Gallia st. and with Main Street to arrange
for the activities. Barbara Hogan has spoken with the Health Dept and
knows what we need to do to be in compliance with all health Regs. She is
also working on getting us a liquor license so we can sell beer. Tony
Sherman has already found two restaurants who are eager to participate.
The point of all this is let you know that the planning committee has
worked hard and has come up with a fall event that will not only be a
great fund raiser for the club but also an event that, like the parade,
the entire community can participate in and enjoy.
However before the committee can proceed with the next phase of planning and
begin to think about implementation, we must know that you are willing to
help with all of the work that must be done on that day. I know how many
folks worked very hard to make the parade a success and I know that it
will probably take even more to make this event a success. I believe that
our Celtic Club is rapidly becoming a strong positive force in this
community and I am honored to be a member of this organization. I believe
that if we all continue to give our best there is no telling how much good
we may accomplish. This Fri. Aug. 17, the event planning committee will
be meeting at the Port City Cafe & Pub at 6:00 PM. Our President John
Hogan will be playing pub music after the meeting as well. If you can
help with any of the work that we need to do in order to make the Samhain
Celebration a success please join us at the meeting. Without your help
this event can not take place. If you can help in Oct., but can't
make the meeting Fri; please drop an email to our President at the
Leprechaun Productions address. Thank you. We'll be looking forward to
seeing you Friday at the Pub.
Sincerely,
Jerry O'Bannion
Events Chairman
